Kyle in Eberswalde, Germany

"What are the odds"

Kyle used to say " What are the odds?" a lot. He often got on kicks with words and phrases and he would repeat something many times through the day. In August I received an envelope with photos and a drawing and birthday wishes on the very day of my birthday. Pretty exciting. Yesterday was our 27th anniversary. Yea! I went to the mailbox and found a package from Kyle. What are the odds that both packages would arrive on the date. FUN. So these photos are from May while he lived in Leipzig. Kyle and his companion were waiting for the bus to go to church and they had to wait much longer than usual because there was a "goth fest" that day. Here are photo's of Kyle waiting for the bus and the only non goth attired passenger on the bus.

Friday through Monday, Becca and Rachel and I had a scrap booking weekend while we watched conference. We enjoyed comparing and building picture pages and visiting and we really loved conference. Last week I worked on a digital scrapbook on the California trip. That book came in the mail this week and it looked very fun. I'm not sure which I like better. The digital book took many hours on the computer by myself but no mess. The fun pages we worked on this weekend probably cost less but we spent almost as much time setting up and cleaning up the scrap booking MESS as actually creating pages. If I were to start over I think I would just invest in digital books but.... I don't know. It was sure fun working together. Aiden got into the act by unrolling stickers, scattering supplies and helping where ever he could.

Today's letter from Kyle

hallo familie,
wie gehts euch. I am doing good. Well i have alot to write today. Big news - I am in Rostock now. The northernest city in the mission. Heres a little of whats happenin. So there is an elder in Rostock who broke his pinky riding his bike and needed surgery haha sounds a little familiar. He just like fell over or something. So yea his companion elder Brinton goes home in like 2 weeks. He was an assistant when i got to germany and he is just a stud and it is crazy working with him. But yea so he needed some help because elder Meixner the one who broke his arm cannot really work. He has been chillin with the old missionary couple. But yea so Elder Brinton needed help so they sent me up here. Yea it was pday and we got home and it was like about the time for blitz transfers so the ones where its not normal transfer time and so the other two companions were joking around with the phone and then the assistants really called. It was elder Schmitt my old mitarbeiter and he talked about the eberswalde würstchen i gave him and i thought that might be it but then he was like we have a job for you to do. They just told me to pack for a couple days and they didnt know how long i would be needed. So i was like wow and i hurried up and packed the stuff i was taking and i packed everything else too just to be safe but i left all the other stuff packed in Eberswalde. But yea so i didnt have time to say bye to any members or anything and tuesday morning i hopped on a train to Rostock. Its like a 4 hour train ride. I had to change trains and stuff too so yea it was long. They were there to pick me up and we went to work. Its pretty cool here. Its on the coast by the ost see. So hopefully sometime we will go to the beach maybe take a dip or something who knows haha. But yea we have been working good. There are 2 people ready to be baptized this coming saturday. Herr schmidt is amazing and is ready. The other guy herr kelling is also cool. But yea there are sisters here too and so we have been working with them and everythng. Then on thursday elder brinton told me oh yea we are tausching with the Zls in Neu Brandenburg. You are going there. haha so i rode back in the car with one of the zone leaders. I worked there overnight it was cool and then the next morining he had to go to district meeting in eberswalde so i got to go all the way back and say hi to everyone. Then we drove all the way back to neu brandenburg in time for me to catch the train back to Rostock. Then when i got back no one was there waiting for me at the station so i was like what do i do. Luckily we had been to this train station a couple times so i found my way back to the appartment no one was there and then the church was right around the corner so i went there in time to catch the missionaries. Then we went back to the main station and took a train to a members house in the Hamburg mission. haha they live in the rostock district though so we have permission or something. So i spent that whole day in the trains. Then the next day saturday we had a lesson and then we got in the train again to go to neu Brandenburg for genearl conference and to stay the night at the zone leaders again. So we did that long ride and then got to Neu brandenburg and watched the saturday morning session at 6 clock in the evening. Then afterwards we talked to people and went to the zone leaders and slept. The next morning sunday the 5 of us with zone leaders went to the church early and made a gourmet breakfast eggs ham waffles pancakes and smoothies or something it was really good. I made the pancakes and thought of grandpa the whole time. Then it was time for the priesthood session 10 am. We watched that then ate lunch then at 2 we watched the saturday night session, then chilled and then watched the sunday morning session at 6 oclock pm and then when it was over we hopped on the train for the approx 2 hour ride back to rostock. So we didnt get to sleep until midnight. But yea so we spent all sunday sitting in 3 sessions of conference and riding the train. It was ridiculous and this whole time i still dont know whats happening with me. I dont know when i am going back to eberswalde or even if i am going back. Its been a crazy week since we last talked haha and i pretty much spent the whole time in a train or in general conference or sleeping. wow i havent traveled this much in my whole mission put together. But i have learned so much since i have been here. Its been quite an adventure. Conference was way good. I liked President monsons closing remarks on sunday morning we probably wont ever get to see sunday afternoon session but yea that was good and This lady talked sunday morning and she was real good too and there was so many good ones actually. Also priesthood when pres monson told the kid in MTC that thought he couldnt learn spanish to go to the japanese classes for a day and then see if he could learn spanish after. That was funny i thought of learning german and how i am still complaining how hard it is. Yea that was a lot to write. I think everything is going ok in eberswalde still i dont know to much. I have learned so much though. Elder Brinton is really good. But that is so cool with payden. Indiana. We are gonna be both out at the same time. I will be just a little over a year then. Its getting close woooooooww. I feel like i am golden still especially being in these new places and not knowing anyone. Haha have fun scrapbooking. Tell aiden i say hi to him. Well yea so maybe next week i will be writing you again from eberswalde or i could just be staying here because elder brinton is going home but who knows i have talked to the aps and everything and no one knows whats gonna happen with me. Well i love you all so much. Keep up the good work in Mountain home Idaho. Oh yea i got an idea for you. You could get on google earth and you can see where i am and look at me maybe if i am on the street just kiddin i dont know how it works but that would be cool i think you can see good what germany looks like and where i have been. Well Have a wunderbar week family. Send my regards to payden. The package should come anytime.Love Elder Hall-----Original Message-----From: "Debbie Hall" <hallmom6@msn.com>To: "Kyle Hall" <khizall@myldsmail.net>Date: Sun, 5 Oct 2008 09:47:42 -0600Dear Kyle,Well the biggest news this week I already sent but I will repeat it. Payden got his mission call!!! That is so crazy that nobody ever went to dad's mission that we knew, Indiana is not dad's mission but very close. Dad did serve in the edge of Indiana for about a year. Pretty exciting. I really thought Payden would get a language though. Grandma wanted him to go to some country where they don't use milk. He will have to tell anyone who feeds him not to use milk and to read every label. It will be hard but he will do well. Maybe Chris will go to his same mission. This week has been good. Becca came down with Aiden to finish painting our room That is kind of funny to think that you were here helping her paint when she started and she is still working on it!!!! I spent hours taking down the wall paper in our little bathroom. I HATE HATE HATE wallpaper!!!!!! I actually hurt my elbow and Bishop Sessions told me I can't do any more work with that arm for one week. He actually told me not to do house work either ! I won't be doing wall paper any more. I don't know how we will get the big walls in our room uncovered. So, I was watching Aiden all the time Becca painted. He is crazy into mischief now. He likes to jump from the little couch to the tan easy chair or from the couch to the bean bag chair. He has discovered dad's games and if he gets a hold of one of those he dumps it all out, every little piece then runs to find something else to dump or throw. He talks about every little thing he does but you can't understand everything he says unless you see him point. I took him to a presidency meeting at Andrew's house and he loved playing with Jack. They were sword fighting once and both got hurt. Aiden was hurt enough to have a big mark on the side of his eye but Jack told him not to cry so he didn't he just sat in the other room with big sobbing breaths until Amanda saw him and asked if he wanted to come to me. He is a tough kid.Chris's soccer team finally lost one game against Nampa. That is probably good so they will be ready for districts. I guess it would be better to never lose at all but...This weekend is crazy because Becca and Rachel decided we should have a girls weekend so Grandma and Grandpa came too and we have tables up and scrapbooking stuff every where so we can do photos while we watch conference. My favorite talks so far have been Elder Holland's about angels and Elder Uchdorf's. It was cool when President Monson announced the temple in Rome. We liked the look on his face. Did you get to watch or do you watch next week? Well, conference is going to start so I better go listen.Love you tons!!! be good and take care!Mom
